REPORTAGE: la toma de la tierra - occupying land in argentina
Villa El Libertador, Cordoba, Argentina
"If the life we live is not dignified, our dignity is the struggle to change it."
La Toma - the take of a piece of land, left uncultivated for years by the great soya entrepreneurs in Argentina, occupied by around 250 families fighting to gain the right to have a house.
While waiting for the state and the local authorities to face the serious living conditions and unemployment problems in the shantytowns of Argentinas second biggest city Cordoba, the people decide to take the situation in its own hands.
In spite of the freezing winter winds and the sweltering summer heat, and above all the polices attempts to block the initiative, more than a 100 houses are now being constructed here thanks to the collective daily work of all the participants.
