ABOUT

Calias

Behind Calias we find the Italian photographer Francesca Casciarri (1970) and the Norwegian photographer Eirik Linder Aspelund (1975). After completing a university degree in geography, Francesca finally decides to concentrate seriously on photography while Eirik begins his career as a travel photographer after a journey to Asia and the Middle East at the age of 21.

They meet for the first time as interns at Magnum Photos in Paris during the summer of 2001. The following winter they decide to go travelling together in Central America and the idea of a collaboration is born. Since 2004 they are signing their photographic works with the name Calias.

In 2006 they start working on a project on water conflicts in the world that in 2007 leads to collaborations with UNESCO, International Rivers, New Water Culture Foundation (FNCA), the Association for International Water Studies (FIVAS) and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA).

Calias has previously been working for clients like the United Nations, the Region of Umbria, the Municipality of Oslo, the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, the Norwegian Museum of Architecture, Aschehoug publishing, the Filmport festival in Oslo and Tromso International Film Festival. Their images have been published in various magazines and exhibitions and their archive consists of images from large parts of Europe, Asia, North Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
