Ganesh in Paris
The Dance of the Elephant God
During the Hindu festival of Ratra Yatra the streets of La Chapelle in Paris turns into a fantastic spectacle of colours, curry, tablas and coconuts as the Indian and Sri Lankan population in the city celebrates Ganesh the Elephant God. After 10 days of praying and worshipping the festival accumulates with the statue of Ganesh being brought through the streets accompanied by ecstatic musicians and dancers while the waiting crowd is covering the grey Parisian asphalt in yellow curry powder and white coconut milk symbolizing the liberation of the self.
